I needed a light rain jacket so decided on the Helly Hansen Seven J.
I thought I would do a post with my initial impressions, list some of the features while getting a feel for the jacket.
So I got the jacket yesterday. It is black and in a size large. Straight away it fits me pretty well, maybe a little small.
I’m 5’10”ish and for a raincoat I thought it was a little too short by at least 2 inches.
I’ve always been in the size large for past similar jackets so I’m thinking Helly Hansen jackets are sized to fit quite snugly.
It’s comfortable though and the arms are long enough going a couple of inches past my wrist with an adequate opening and Velcro giving a good range of adjustment.
The outer material is a nice texture and repels rain really well. On the inside of the jacket is a mesh lining and is comfortable and with just a t-shirt is nice against the skin compared to some non lined jackets. There is a decent sized pocket on the inside in a handy position.
I like the hood , good size. Nice when there’s a bit of room inside to be able to move your face around to get a little more shelter.
The collar is also a nice fit and height which is important keeping that area warm and insulated from wind/ cold. There is some material lining against the nose and mouth, which is nice for further comfort.
The storm flap covering the zip has snaps top and bottom and strips of Velcro in between which secures it very well. The zipper handles? are pretty small for people with larger hands.
I think I’ve sorta covered the main points, I just wanted to give a brief overview as an introduction and in a few months give a more through review once I’ve gotten out in the elements.
Although I’ve been out in the rain in it and it worked well and with the dropping night temperatures was out and kept warm enough with 2 layers underneath.
Well thanks for reading and hopefully this will give you some clarity for choice on your next jacket.
